Terms of Service

Last updated: 16 September 2026

These terms apply when you join DIY Tools Library CIC as a member, borrow tools, book a workshop, or donate tools to us. Please read them alongside our Privacy Policy. By joining as a member or using our services, you agree to these terms.

1. Who we are

DIY Tools Library CIC is a Community Interest Company limited by guarantee, registered in England and Wales (Company No. 17341747), based at St Mary's Complex, 13 Waverley St, Bootle, Liverpool L20 4AP.

2. Membership & payment

  • You must be at least 18 years old to become a member or borrow tools.
  • Membership is billed monthly according to the tier you choose. Prices and what's included in each tier are set out on our Membership page.
  • Payments are processed securely by our payment provider, Stripe. We don't store your full card details.
  • No deposit is required to join or to borrow tools.

3. Cancellation & cooling-off

  • You may cancel your membership at any time through your online account or by emailing us, with no notice period. Your membership remains active until the end of your current billing period, and you won't be charged again after that.
  • As a new member, you have a statutory 14-day right to cancel your membership immediately after signing up for a full refund, provided you haven't borrowed any tools during that period, in line with the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.

4. Borrowing tools

  • The number of tools you can borrow at once, and how often, depends on your membership tier — see our Membership tiers for details.
  • The maximum borrowing period is 10 calendar days from collection, after which the tool must be returned. This limit doesn't apply to consumables you've purchased from us.
  • Late returns may incur a late fee of £2 per item per day, and repeated late returns may result in a temporary suspension of your borrowing privileges.
  • Tools are supplied without consumable accessories (such as drill bits, saw blades or sandpaper) unless stated otherwise — these can be purchased on-site.
  • Tools remain the property of DIY Tools Library CIC (or the original donor, where applicable) at all times.

5. Tool safety & your responsibilities

  • All electrical tools are PAT tested for safety before being added to the library and at regular intervals afterwards.
  • You're responsible for using borrowed tools safely, for their intended purpose, and in accordance with any instructions or guidance we provide.
  • You must report any fault, damage, or safety concern with a tool to us as soon as you become aware of it, and stop using it immediately if you believe it's unsafe.
  • Most tools in our library are second-hand or refurbished. We don't ask members for a deposit or automatic penalty to cover repair costs, and we rely on members to use borrowed tools appropriately and return them in working order where possible. We reserve the right to suspend or end membership in cases of repeated, deliberate, or reckless damage to library tools.

6. Liability

Tools and equipment are lent for DIY and home-improvement use. You're responsible for using appropriate care and safety precautions (such as suitable protective equipment) when using borrowed tools. To the fullest extent permitted by law, DIY Tools Library CIC is not liable for any indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of borrowed tools or attendance at our workshops. Nothing in these terms limits our liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence.

7. Workshops

Workshop places are booked in advance and paid for at the price shown at the time of booking, with discounts applied automatically for eligible membership tiers. If you can't attend a workshop you've booked, please let us know as soon as possible so we can offer your place to someone else — we'll do our best to arrange a refund or transfer where we can.

8. Donating tools

If you donate a tool to us, ownership transfers to DIY Tools Library CIC and we may clean, refurbish, repair, or otherwise prepare it before adding it to the library. Donations are accepted at our discretion — we'll let you know if a tool isn't suitable. Eligible donations qualify for a discount on membership, as set out on our Donate tools page.

9. Acceptable use of our website

Please use our website lawfully and respectfully. All content, branding, and design on this site belong to DIY Tools Library CIC unless otherwise stated, and shouldn't be copied or reused without our permission.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time as our services develop. We'll update the "last updated" date above, and where changes are significant, we'll let members know directly.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
